Evie’s Poem: “The Oak Tree”

Evie's Oak Tree

The Oak Tree

I am the ancient, gnarled oak tree,

I am 215 years old,

I live in a solitary forest,

And nobody knows about me.

I am the ancient, gnarled oak tree,

I am brown and covered in leaves,

I am as wise as the great owl,

And this is what I see:

Everything is green in a dozen of different shades,

The birds sing and the squirrels natter,

The plants are bright with growth,

That’s what I see in spring.

The sun is as golden as rye,

I am chocolatey brown,

The snakes sunbathe on rocks,

That’s what I see in summer.

The trees are tawny and red,

Burnished with the last of the years splendour,

Before the commencement of the snow,

That’s what I see in autumn.

The forest is covered in a white blanket,

All the trees are naked without their leafy clothing,

No flowers blossom now,

That’s what I see in winter.

I shall stand here for a few hundred years more,

Just watching the world go by,

Standing quietly yet filled with joy,

But hoping that someone will find,

The Ancient, Gnarled Oak Tree!
