Children have daily literacy lessons, which may be topic-based. We want children to read, write and speak fluently, using language accurately. Children learn both technical and creative writing skills, including synthetic phonics skills, spelling and handwriting, through studying a variety of traditional and modern stories and texts. We hope to inspire them with engaging lessons so that writing is both purposeful and enjoyable.
We use a range of phonics schemes: we use Read, Write Inc. to teach formation and Jolly Phonics to give non-visual learners a hook for sounds. We follow DFE Letters and Sounds too.
