On Tuesday 31st January, children playing any instrument of a certain level went to an orchestra day at Monkton Combe School with Mrs Clarke. We were given a place to put our things and then they took us into the hall were we played several different pieces including passages from Handel’s Water Music, the Lion Sleeps Tonight, When the Saints Come Marching In and many others. We had been given some music a couple of days before, but the rest we learned from scratch.
The food for lunch was really nice and filled us up a lot. At lunch time we sat were we wanted, ate our amazing food and went outside and played tag in the playground until it was time for us to go in. Everybody was allowed to go outside for a few minutes. When we came back inside we were split into five groups: percussion, brass, woodwind, strings and bass. There we learned how to play the music we were given, better and with more confidence. Once we had finished we went back into the hall and played the music through, but this time some of the classes had come to watch us. After about ten minutes our parents came and we performed a concert for them.
We really enjoyed the day and we found that we had become more confident at playing our instruments.
